David Oddy Guitar.

I am now the proud owner of one of David’s guitars, although it is only a couple of weeks since I picked it up and therefore we are still ‘getting to know each other’ I know already that it is very special, it plays like a dream and I feel very comfortable with it.

The guitar I now have is not the first “Oddy” I have owned, I got that just over a year ago. As with all instruments that David builds the tone and look were a delight. After a few months I realised that although I was gradually becoming used to it, the fret board was just a little narrow for me (they don’t call me Sausage Fingers Silver for nothing!) resulting in me not playing as accurately as I would want to. I went back to David to see if he could help and he made another nut to open up the string spacing. I took the guitar away but the compromise did not really work and the reality of the fact that I was never going to be able to play the guitar to the standard that I would normally expect of myself became too stark to turn away from.

To his credit, David, when I told him, immediately responded by offering to build me another instrument, the one I now have.

The first one is for sale for £1400.00 direct from David Oddy 01392 219547 or, david@davidoddy.freeserve.co.uk It is the ‘M’ shape, it has an Engleman spruce front, East Indian rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and bridge and built in Fishman pick-up and comes in a Hiscox case. The instrument has a lovely clear sound and great sustain, if anyone is interested I am sure David would be delighted to give them any further information that they require.

Chris Jones died 13th September 2005

Sadly we lost Chris some weeks ago, I apologise for not making note of it at the time, I was away and did not want to update the website simply to that effect, without adding my sympathy for their loss, to all those who were close to, and cared about Chris. His passing will be deeply felt by those of us who knew him and played music with him. He was a truly remarkable musician and possessed of tremendous ability to connect with songs of the many styles and genres written and composed by those he took part in recording with. His own recordings too, are outstanding and, poignantly the song, “Thank You (R. J. Reynolds)” about the cigarette manufacturers that is featured on his last album: Roadhouses and Automobiles, is a stark reminder of what took him away.

This is no sermon by the way, I have stopped now but I smoked for too many years and who knows? I might still have some ‘time to serve’ before I can say I have kicked the habit.

Travel safely Chris, be thinking of you…

If you wish you can still make a donation to the fund set up to assist with the cost of Chris’ hospital costs and funeral expenses. Please make your donation to:
